ANALYSIS OF THE HERBAL USE OF BAY LEAF TO OVERCOME GOUT ARTHRITIS

Abstract

Background: Herbal bay leaf are one of the ways that herbs are utilized in Indonesia for health purposes, including treating gout. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explain the analysis of the use of bay leaves for reducing uric acid levels in the elderly. Method: An analytical pre-experiment was used with a pre-test group design. The study population consisted of all elderly aged 60 to 74 years in the working area of the Nempit Health Center, namely. There are no less than 42 seniors. The sample size was determined using a simple random sampling technique using a sample of 39 elderly people. Variable free use of bay leaf and variable bound to uric acid levels. Bay leaf feeding research tool with gout detection plate and measurement of uric acid with GCU (glucose-cholesterol-uric acid). Data processing using Wilcoxon statistical tests.. Results: The results of the study found that before giving bay leaf decoction herbs, 39 elderly (100%) had abnormal uric acid levels in all elderly, and after giving bay leaf decoction herbs almost all were old. had normal uric acid levels in 35 elderly people (89.8%). The results of the analysis of giving bay leaf decoction herbs before and after using the Wilcoxon statistical test gave a value of p = 0.000 which means p <; 0.05, giving bay leaf decoction herbs has a real effect on reducing uric acid levels in the work area of the Ngampit Health Center. Conclusion: The nonpharmacological herbal medicine therapy can be more effective and efficient if combined with a balanced lifestyle and good lifestyle management, because harsh consumption habits can also contribute to high uric acid levels in the elderly.
