THE DESCRIPTION OF NEGLECT TO THE ELDERLY IN SURABAYA

Abstract

Background. As the number of elderly in the community increases, various problems are found, one of the problems is neglect in the elderly. Purpose. This study aims to describe the neglect of the elderly in Liponsos Surabaya. Method. Methodology. Cross-sectional descriptive research methodology with a total of 52 samples was taken by purposive sampling technique. The single variable is neglect, collecting physical, psychological, and financial neglect questionnaire data that has been tested for validity and reliability. Result. The elderly who experienced the highest physical neglect were in the medium category as many as 48 (92.3) respondents, the highest psychological neglect in the medium category category 28 (53.8%), the highest financial neglect was in the medium category as many as 41 (78.8%). Neglect in the elderly both physically, psychologically and financially is highest in the medium category. Conclusion. To better prepare themselves to face aging, it is hoped that the elderly can maintain health and develop their spirituality. Families need to treat the elderly with more respect, attention as they age.
